Local Organizations Offer Volunteer and Donation Opportunities

Looking for a place to watch Thanksgiving Day football and do good in the community? Our Daily Bread Denton, in partnership with Friends with Benefits Denton, will hold Keep Denton Warm Nov. 22-23 at Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill. Community members are encouraged to bring gently used winter wear items for Our Daily Bread Denton. A percentage of the sales also will be donated to help area homeless individuals this winter. Denton County Friends of the Family, in partnership with Denton County Transportation Authority, will hold the Second Annual Holiday Express train ride from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Community members can buy a ticket to travel the A-train to the North Pole (the Greater Denton Arts Council & DCTA Downtown Center). Journey to Dream will hold Dream Express from 5:30-8 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Next Steps Center in Lewisville to help area homeless students and families in need. Volunteers are needed, as well as donations, including gift cards; clothing for newborn-8 years old; unwrapped toys for newborn to 12 years old; teen hoodies/beanies; headphones; art supplies; and beauty products. Did you know Meals on Wheels serves Denton County seniors and their pets? Community members can volunteer to serve Meals on Wheels one day per week or on a standby basis to local seniors in need. They also can participate in Senior Paws for Pets by delivering monthly pet food to area seniors. Pet food and monetary donations always are needed. For more information, visit MOWDC.org.
