“April is a promise that May is bound to keep,” according to the author Hal Borland.

You understand this sentiment if you’ve already found yourself putting the top down, throwing open windows while you still can or perhaps sinking your toes into the grass. May brings with it an abundance of joy—bright blue skies, a rainbow of flowers and, of course, the celebration of mothers on May 12.

In this issue, we not only celebrate mothers but all the women in our community who make such a difference in our homes, schools, businesses, churches and nonprofit organizations. We are blessed.

This month, we catch up with Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce President Lori Walker and her team of talented ladies. These gals can run circles around anybody and are instrumental in supporting our local businesses and community in fresh, innovative ways.

We also have a front-row seat for Creative Element’s owner Lucie Hasek’s life-changing cycling trip through Laos, an amazing journey that started with a simple conversation.

Next, Cara Price with The Nourished Body and Soul blog provides a “sweet” look at a favorite chocolate pie recipe passed down from her mother and how she updated it to suit her dietary needs. We’ll take a slice of each!

In Giving Back, we highlight Debbie Sardone, local owner of Buckets & Bows Maid Service, who is also the founder of nationwide nonprofit Cleaning for a Reason that supports cancer patients. Her leadership and vision are truly inspiring.

Before we move on to June and give the gentlemen their chance, take a moment to laugh or ponder some of our favorite mom quotes in Parting Thoughts. Go ahead and steal one for your card to your mom or wife—we won’t tell!
