Learning Through Play 11

For many of us, August is a bittersweet turning point in the calendar year. Summer freedom is drawing to a close, and the school bells will be ringing any day now. While the lazy days of sipping cool beverages poolside may be numbered, this month brings a sense of renewal. New routines, new clothes and new school supplies often come to mind in August.

And because we dedicated an issue to both the men and women of our community earlier this year, it would only be right to celebrate some of our cutest residents: kids and pets!

HiVi’s Morgan McKibbon owns Pink Paw Pet Sitting and shares her passion and professionalism for the care of pets. She may be the answer to your prayers. Next, we are awestruck by local artist Ellen Drummond’s talent in capturing furry friends on canvas—amazing! We’ll also whip up a recipe for homemade dog treats so you can spoil your loyal companions.

For the kiddos, if you haven’t visited Play Street Museum on 2499, it’s a creative outlet for the younger set. Meanwhile, Bob Ray with Robert Ray Photography gives us some tips on capturing portraits like a pro. And as schedules get busier, it’s easy to get bogged down with schoolwork, activities and stress. In “Balancing Act,” Dr. Kay Trotter and her amazing team at Kaleidoscope Behavioral Health offer advice for coping with school-year stress.

Finally, we’ll take a look at a Florida getaway my family enjoyed that may have you pondering: Can you pull off two weeks on the road with multiple kids that satisfies different ages? Yes!

Buckle up, everyone! August, here we come!
